TWIC NOW ACCEPTED AT DEFENSE DEPARTMENT INSTALLATIONS
The Department of Defense (DoD) is now accepting the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as a valid form of identification Wednesday, January 06, 2010 The Department of Defense (DoD) is now accepting the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as a valid form of identification to enter a military facility. The TWIC is being accepted in addition to the Common Access Credential, or CAC, and does not replace it as a military access ID. The TWIC is a biometric identification card issued by the Transportation Security Administration that is required for unescorted access to port facilities. Truck drivers are already the largest population of TWIC card holders with nearly 250,000 enrolled. Drivers can visit the TWIC website(https://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov/TWICWebApp/) to schedule an appointment to apply for a TWIC card. The TWIC card is a proof of identity credential only; drivers holding a TWIC card must still have a valid business reason to visit a military installation. |
